It’s always easier to pick white bread over brown – because white is what they have a lot of choice in at the supermarket. Still, you take the trouble to look for brown because that’s what gives you the whole food nutrition your family deserves – they make it with the whole wheat kernel with endosperm, germ and bran all intact. Or do they? In truth, it doesn’t mean anything that it claims that it’s “brown bread ” or “wheat bread” on the package. Those kinds of bread simply need to try to tap a market that’s too finicky to prefer brown bread but would still like to feel kind of self-righteous. It’s made with no more than 20% or so whole-wheat. You need to take a close look at the list of ingredients to be really sure what you’re buying. Wherever you turn in your efforts to buy whole food nutrition for your family, this is the kind of word play you need to overcome.
