Swiss Sciences Nutrition Advice – Nutrients

Here, Swiss Sciences Nutrition will discuss Nutrients and how they are used by the body.

Nutrients are simply chemicals we all need. They are what makes our bodies live and grow. They are used to create and repair body tissues and to regulate all the body’s internal processes. Energy is created in our bodies as a result of the conversions of many nutrients. Organic nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and vitamins come from the materials of other living organisms while inorganic nutrients are “non-living” substances such as water, oxygen, and minerals. Macronutrients like carbohydrates, protein, fat and water are nutrients that are needed in large quantities. Micronutrients like vitamins and minerals are only needed in small amounts. Essential nutrients are nutrients that cannot be created within the body. These are nutrients that must be introduced by the foods we eat or in dietary supplements. Nonessential nutrients are created by our bodies. Carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are nutrients that provide energy for our bodies. They nutrients are broken down in the body’s digestive system and turned into energy. Metabolism supporting nutrients include dietary minerals, vitamins, and water.

Following is a short description of the major classifications of nutrients:

The Carbohydrates

Sugars, starches, and fiber are the nutrients classified as complex carbohydrates. Foods such as rice, wheat, noodles, bread and other grains are all high in carbohydrates. Though they are an important part of our everyday diet carbohydrates can have a negative effect on our health when consumed in large quantities. Simple carbohydrates are highly processed. They include sugars and starches and can have seriously negative effects on our health when consumed in large amounts.

Fiber

Fiber is also a carbohydrate and can be classified as either soluble or insoluble. Fiber is a part of foods like whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Fiber has many health benefits and improves digestion in several ways by moving food along the digestive tract and slowing the absorption of sugar, which helps lower blood glucose levels to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The Proteins

The things that make up our muscles, hair, and skin are provided by proteins. Proteins are made up of amino acids. Enzymes are also created by proteins. Enzymes are important substances which control chemical reactions in the body.

The Fats

Fats are classified as being either saturated or unsaturated. Saturated fats are usually solid at room temperature. These fats are the basis of animal fats. Unsaturated fats are usually liquid at room temperature and are what composes most vegetable oils. Saturated fats are not usually as healthy for us as unsaturated fats. Unsaturated fats are also broken down further into omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids. Unsaturated fats that have been “hydrogenated” are know as Trans-fats. These can be found in foods like margarine and are solid at room temperature. Trans-fats are the least healthy of the fats and have been shown to be detrimental to our health.

The Vitamins

Many vitamins are considered essential nutrients and cannot be created by the body but must be consumed in the form of food or supplements. Many diseased can occur as a result of vitamin deficiencies – among them are cancer, immune system weaknesses, and osteoporosis.

Minerals

Substances not found in organic tissue but that are required nutrients are called minerals. Among the primary minerals we consume are sodium, calcium, and magnesium. Minerals can be added to our diet in the form of supplements.

Foods will invariably contain a mixture of nutrient classes. While most nutrients are stored inside out bodies many others have to be taken in on a fairly regular basis. A deficiency of the required nutrients can lead to poor health. Swiss Sciences Nutrition recommends a well balanced diet which contains an ample amount of the required nutrients. The Popular Acai Berry

It was only recently that few people had heard of the acai juice but, nowadays, it is difficult to not notice the large number of acai berry products on the market. Not only there is a lot of products containing this berry sold in health food stores including the vitamin store GNC or Whole Foods but you are likely to find tons of acai berry drinks in everyday grocery stores that you go to often including Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, Kroger, Vons, Price Chopper and so on. Basically, if you wish to try an acai berry juice, it is easy to just pick one up the next time you are shopping for groceries.

The acai berry became interesting when people read about all its health benefits. Not only a lot of well known scientists and experts claim that maybe the fruit of the acai palm tree is one of the most nutritious fruits on Earth, but some researchers even published that there is a possibility that it might help cure cancer. In a well known experiement conducted and published by the University of Florida, the acai berry killed a substantial amount of cancer in sample cells. More research needs to be conducted, of course, but a large number of people are hopeful because it is a great start which can lead to finding a cure for cancer.

Since there are lots of acai berry products these days, it is hard to figure out which ones are the best and which ones you need to be taking. Since the acai berry originates from Brazil, in some cities over there, you can buy fresh acai berries. If you live outside of Brazil and you are not a juice person then there are lots of other products such as acai smoothies, acai powder, acai tea, and acai ice cream or sorbet that you might like more. They are all tasty and nutritious.

A Diet to Treat Yeast Infection

It might surprise you to know that there are many ways that you might be able to get a yeast infection. Among the possibilities include using oral contraceptive pills, using oral steroids, about to get your period, having diabetes, using certain hygiene products, and wearing tight, damp, and/or warm clothing. There are a number of solutions to treat the infection. Along with these treatments, you also need to learn about the importance of diet.  If you have a yeast infection you really want to deal with it.

Detoxing, that would be the more appropriate term when it comes to a yeast infection diet. The reason a yeast infection occurs is because of a microorganism, that has grown too much in your body, or Candida albicans as it is known in the scientific community.  There are many ways you can do a body detox.

A basic part of the diet is of course to consume plenty of water. When detoxing your body it’s very difficult to do this without the help of water. It helps flush out the toxins inside the body. In addition to water, drinking fresh fruit juices and even tea be added to the liquid intake. Generally speaking it’s advised that you have an intake of eight glasses of water daily.

Eating lots of fresh food is also an important part of the diet. Avoiding foods that have a lot of fat in it is best, not only for your yeast infection but to keep your body healthy on a daily basis. Don’t overcook your food as well. This is because you can kill a lot of the nutrients in your food when heat is applied so be sure to cook your food just right. Steamed and sautéed would be the ideal cooking preparations. By eating a raw salad you will be able to avoid any nutrient loss too. Although in saying that, there are some sweet flavored vegetables which should be avoided such as carrots, corn, potatoes, onions, and sweet potatoes.

Try and eat as much garlic as you can also. The reason is because garlic is naturally rich in antibacterial compounds which help to eliminate yeast infection. Be generous with your fresh greens and limit your intake of meat. Fish, beef, lamb, poultry and eggs are okay in moderation.

Food nutrition value

Reading and Understanding Food Nutrition Value

When you go to the supermarket to shop for food, odds are you noticed that there was a listing of nutrients and ingredients on the back of the food package and wondered exactly what the point of that was. It turns out that some time ago the United States government realized that people were eating improperly because they likely didn’t understand what exactly was in the food they were eating. Not knowing calories, fat contents and other nutrient values in food can lead to eating too much of a certain nutrient or other compound. This can lead to health problems down the road, which is why you have to understand food nutrition value.

What Food Nutrition Value Measures

Food nutrition value measures raw food nutrition, which is the amount of nutrients given to the body from a given serving of food. Nutritional value is measured in terms of a percentage, meaning how much of a mparticluar nutrient your body getws from eating one serving of a given food. For example a slie of meat might give 40% of a peson’s daily value for protein. The food nutrition value is based on a person’s daily calorie intake. Every nutrient except for water has a certain amount of calores per gram, and all these add up to a full day’s worth of calorie consumption. There are generally two listings on a food nutrition value – one for 2000 calories and one for 2500.

2000 calories per day is the average adult human intake, meaning that It takes into account base metabolic rate and a reasonable amount of extra activity. The more you exercise, the more calories will be necessary to keep the body running, because more muscle tissues use more calories. Generally, people who are more active require at least 2500 calories per day. Men require more than women on average as well.

The best way to make use of knowing food nutrition value on the packaging is to mentally calculate how much of that food you could eat to get your recommended daily allowance of the most abundant nutrient. For most people, they look at the fat content first, and this may or may not be the wisest. After all, there are other nutrients than fat. You should look at vitamin A and C content in fruit or vegetable products especially. As a rule, you should be able to eat three servings of a given food at least and still be wihin your allotment of nutrients and calories, and make sure there’s a balance between calories and nutrients.
