Do you need protein at every meal?

Do plant proteins need to be combined at every meal?

No. Plant foods provide different mixes of amino acids, and a varied diet across the day can provide the amino acids the body needs. You do not need to carefully pair specific plant proteins at every meal.

Beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, nuts, seeds and whole grains can all contribute protein. People who eat mostly or entirely plant-based diets usually benefit from eating a variety of these foods rather than relying on one source.

This is why “high protein” alone does not tell you whether one food is a better choice than another.
